Academy Award–winning screenwriter (1905–1976) of such films as Roman Holiday, Spartacus, Exodus, Johnny Got His Gun, and Papillon, who attained worldwide notoriety as a member of the blacklisted ‘Hollywood Ten.’ TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, November 3, 1961. Letter to Miss Leila Alexander at the Mirisch Company, in full: "I cannot resist telling you that in the past thirty misspent years of my life I have never seen research material as intelligently selected and brilliantly arranged as that which you have sent me thus far for Hawaii." In very good to fine condition, with scattered creasing and a few small edge separations at folds. Trumbo wrote the screenplay for the film Hawaii, based on James Michener's great novel, which was released in 1966.
