Dahlgren Bowie Bayonet
Designed for use by the Navy on the Model 1861 Plymouth Whitneyville rifle, this bayonet features a very heavy 12 inch spear point blade. The bayonet is unmarked and has a thick brass guard and is fitted with smooth walnut grips. Complete with a black leather scabbard with brass tip and throat. There are no markings or inspections present on this obviously original bayonet. Could be a contract overrun or sample piece. One will have to form their own opinion.

Very fine. The blade is fine with most of a high polish finish with a few areas of spotting and minor surface rust. The brass as aged to a pleasing golden yellow and shows dings and handling marks overall. The scabbard is fine with some cracking of the leather and the brass aged to a deep brownish yellow.
