Featured in this lot is this 1840-1870s daguerreotype in its original case, taken by either Rufus Anson or Abraham Bogardus. The case shows intricate scroll designs on the front and back, surrounding an image of a large vase. The interior shows a red felt cushion on the left side with scroll designs and reads, "Anson 589 Broadway N. Y." On the right side, is the photo housed in a gold colored frame and stamped "Bogardus" in the lower left hand corner. The photo shows a woman by the name of H. Hays. She is wearing a nice dress and has combed, slicked back hair. She rests her right hand on her hip and she gives the viewer a slight smile. The case shows fair condition as the front is completely detached but shows little wear to the case itself. The photo shows good condition with little wear present. The case measures 3 5/8" L x 3 1/4" W x 11/16" D and weighs 128.3 grams.
