The mother has a satisfied smile as she holds her daughter's hands. There's a pillow with a tassel at left. The backdrop is wonderfully conceived. At left there are clouds, as in Kilburn, but at right there is a large frame filled with just pale violet. Aside from being a relaxed double portrait, this is a nice study in blues and violets. The composition is interesting. There is a little more space on the right than one might expect. And the left edge of the frame does not come down in the center of the plate or exactly between the two faces. This allows the mother's head to be in the violet frame without being forced into a tight pattern, and the child has open sky above her to the left. The blue orb at the right is part of the image. This 1/4 plate has been re-sealed, and there's some haze under the glass. In a nice plain brown case.
