Dacia. Hostilian, Caesar, 250-251 A.D., AE 28 (19.01 g). Draped, cuirassed bust right/ Dacia standing left, holding branch, scepter; eagle at feet to left, lion at feet to right. SGI 4290. About VF, attractive red-brown patina. Dacia, known in antiquity for its rich silver mines, became a Roman province under the emperor Trajan in the early second century. Rome, however, was to lose this rich territory during the reign of Aurelian, some twenty years after this scarce coin was struck.
