This is a nice example of a desirable Model 1908 Commercial Luger as produced by the DWM factory. These 1908 models were the first true production Lugers that all other military Lugers were to be patterned after. These Lugers were produced from 1908 through 1913 and were sold under both commercial and military contracts. This model of Luger can be distinguished from the later models, based on two notable features; 1) they were made without a hold-open catch and 2) they don't have a stock lug. In 1914 a new Luger was introduced which became the standard production model Luger until 1942 when production ceased completely. The top of the chamber area is blank with the rear toggle having the DWM logo. The right side of the barrel extension is blank and the left side has the Commercial Crown over "B" and "U" proofs and the underside of the barrel has the five digit serial number along with the commercial Crown over "B", "U" and "G" proofs. Since this is a commercial Luger, DWM serial numbered these in a commercial style, intended to hide the serial numbers. Various parts are marked with the last two digits of the serial number. They all exhibited an exceptional high polish, rust blued finish with straw colors on the small parts, unmarked nickel magazine with wooden base marked only with an "+" and fitted with checkered walnut grips.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 39555
Condition: Very fine. The pistol retains 85% original blue finish with some wear on the muzzle and high points, thinning on the front of the trigger guard and some minor spotting on the grip straps. 50% of the original straw color remains on the small components with areas thinning to a smooth mottled silver gray. The grips are also excellent with a few nicks in the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
