DUDLEY PRATT BRONZE FOUNTAIN SCULPTURE
BRONZE SCULPTURE: Wonderful cast bronze fountain sculpture. While unsigned, the consignor has provided an unconfirmed attribution of this work to the Seattle artist, Dudley Pratt. Mr. Pratt was a contemporary of George Tsutakawa, with whom he was a student and of late was responsible for those well known gargoyles sculptured on the outside of Smith Hall on the campus (1940) and other public facilities in the Northwest, as well as in the collection of The Seattle Art Museum. The fountain is of two children sitting on a log with one child trying to reach the others hand, holding a clam. The figures are thought to be modeled after the Artist's daughter and her friend. The work is robust, extremely heavy, of like nature in design and execution to works by Pratt and was cast by Zandt Brass and Bronze Foundry in West Seattle. He was married to Virginia Claflin Pratt who was also a sculptress. Note: This sculpture appears to have been cracked in two pieces at one point and repaired; note some loss of patina in these areas.
