(1812-1865) Union naval officer whose family was Southern, but he remained loyal to the North; his brother was Confederate General Thomas Drayton. He commanded the West Gulf squadron and the Hartford during the Battle of Mobile Bay. Nice war-date S.P., a carte-de-visite showing Drayton seated in a chair with sword. Signed on verso: ""For Fleet Surgeon Palmer with the compliments of P. Drayton (Dec. 1863) Flag Ship Hartford Nov. 29, 1864"". Corners are rounded with a small crease at right margin. Toning and soiling affect image, else good.
