Thomas and William Boone, 1832With engraved frontispiece and 12 folding plates, pages (2), vi, (4), 417 ; (2), 28, (12, index), 8vo, original cloth, uncut, with printed paper spine label : a very good-nice copy.The first British work on military bridging : here greatly enlarged on the 204-pages of the original edition of 1816 and with improved plates. Originally compiled as a text-book for the use of the Royal Military College, it is said to have furnished Telford with the idea of the suspension principle in bridge construction. Douglas distinguished himself as a soldier both in Canada and in Spain, and was later to become governor of New Brunswick and to found the University of Fredericton.ALSO WITH THIS LOT: (1) PACK ( Reynell ). FIRST EDITION, with an additional lithographed title-page, 6 plates and 2 text illustrations, pages xii, 391, 20 (adverts dated November 1868), 8vo, original blue cloth, gilt by Edmonds & Remnants, with their ticket : a clean and very good copy.Head served in the Royal Engineers 1811-25, was present at Waterloo and in 1825-26 was manager of the Rio de la Plata Mining Association.
