1) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on blue lined paper. The document is titled, “Chief Engineer’s Office at Dalton Ga April 13 1864”. The document is addressed, “Captain A.W. Gloster Commdg Engr Troops Atlanta Ga Captain”. The letter instructs Captain Gloster to test the capacity of his pontoon boats by experiment in the Chattahoochee river. Document is signed, “Very Respectfully S.W. Presstman Major Chf Engr At”.
2) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on blue lined paper. The document is titled, “Chief Engineering Office AT Dalton Ga April 15 1864”. The document is addressed, “Capt. A W Gloster Engr Troops Atlanta Ga Captain”. The document instructs Gloster to make additions to his pontoon wagons as necessary & gives Gloster various other instructions & orders. Document is signed, “Very Respectfully S.W. Presstman Major Chf Engr At”.
3) This document measures 6 1/2" x 8" & is on gray lined paper. The document is titled, “Head Quarters 3rd Regt Eng Troops Dalton Geo April 21st 1864”. The document is addressed, “Captain” & orders Gloster to keep on hand at all times 2 drills, 10 yds. of fuse & a quarter keg of gun powder. The document goes on further to instruct Gloster to brand his wagon covers, “Co _ 3rd Regt Engr Troops”. Document is signed, “I am Captain Very Respectfully your Obt. Servt. H N Pharr Capt. Comdg 3rd Regt Eng Troops”.
4) This document measures 5" x 8" & is on gray paper. The document is titled, “Head Quarters 3rd Regt Eng. Troops Dalton Geo April 30th 1864”. The document reads, “Special Order No 85” & instructs Captain Gloster to draw 75 carbines & equipment from the Ordnance Dept. of Atlanta. Document is signed, “By Order of H.N. Pharr Capt Comdg Engr Troops J.W. Chalmers Lt A.A.”.
5) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on blue lined paper. The document is titled, “Chief Engineers Office AT Dalton Ga May 7. 1864”. The document is addressed, “Capt. A W Gloster Commdg Engr Troops Atlanta. Ga. Captain”. The document advises Gloster that he may momentarily be ordered to the front w/ 1 company & 40 boats. Presstman asked to be notified by telegraph when he is ready to move. Document is signed, “Very Respectfully S W Presstman Major + Chf Engr AT”.
6) This document measures 3 1/2" x 8" & is on white paper. The document is titled, “Adairsville May 17, 4 P.M”. The document is addressed, “Captain A. W. Gloster”. The hastily written document orders Gloster to “Move your train to the Etowah river and await further orders.”. Document is signed, “S.W. Presstman Major + Ch Engr A.T.”.
7) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on gray lined paper. The document is titled, “Hd Qs 3D Reg Eng Troops June 29 1864”. The document is addressed, “Capt. A.W. Gloster Commdg “C” Captain” & instructs Gloster that a Board of Survey is not necessary to throw away damaged cartridges. He may throw any away & requisition new cartridges. Document is signed, “Very Rest Percy Roberts Adjt”.
8) This document measures 7" x 8" & is on gray paper. The document has a printed header that reads, “Department of the Tennessee Chief Engineer’s Office”. It is hand dated July 6, 1864. The document is addressed, “Capt A W Gloster Commdg Pontoniers Paces Ferry Captain”. This document orders Gloster to send 1 of his officers to Presstman at the Chattahoochee railroad crossing w/ pontoons that are not already in the water. Document is signed, “Very Respy S.W. Presstman Lt Col + Chf Eng AT”. CONDITION: paper is generally in solid condition. There are no notable tears in the documents. Writing is generally clear & in a good hand.
