Once best known for his closeup
paintings of fish, avid fly fisherman
Dix now paints a range of subjects
in his expressive, light-infused style.
Characterized by his bold brushwork
and dramatic use of light and color
his paintings depict landscapes,
villages, adobe buildings, fishing
scenes and the river environment
as a whole. Baines was born in
1961 in Denver, Colorado and from
childhood, expressed love and talent
for drawing. After high school, he
attended Brigham Young University
where he enrolled in painting classes.
Having shown impressive skill in
realism, Baines was encouraged by his
professor there to enter the Interior
Design Department. He enrolled in
the Art Students League of Denver
in order to paint and there studied
with Quang Ho and Kim English. His
artwork can be found in permanent
collections including the Forbes
Collection, City of Parker Collection,
and the Pat and Annabelle Bowlen
Collection.
