(illustrated on cover and within) In 1970 and 1971, Diane Arbus made several trips to homes for the mentally retarded in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and took a group of photographs which have come to be known as her UNTITLED series. UNTITLED (8), which appears on the cover of the 1995 publication DIANE ARBUS: UNTITLED, is one of the most well known of the group. It depicts five residents from one of the homes dressed in their costumes one Halloween afternoon. The UNTITLED series was taken near the end of Arbus' life, and is considered one of the most compelling bodies of work of her entire oeuvre.
