DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN is easily the most famous headline of the 20th century. The November 3, 1948 issue of the Chicago Daily Tribune became the paper that made the paper. A widely publicized photo showing the triumphant Truman gleefully displaying the blooper immortalized the Tribune's premature declaration of a Dewey win in the 1948 presidential race. This particular issue contains two complete sections and is evenly aged. One small tear above the masthead that can be repaired. Overall a very nice edition in fine condition.

Also included with this lot is a 10" x 8" B&W modern print of the above-mentioned famous photo, the uncropped, original version, signed in the lower margin by the photographer Byron H. Rollins. A three-page letter from him describes the circumstances surrounding him getting this historic shot, surely one the most recognizable images of the 20th century.

Important notice:</
