War-date A.L.S. of Pvt. George P. Taylor, Co. D, 6th NY Heavy Artillery to his sister on fine lettersheet with an aerial view of Harpers Ferry, 4pp. 4to. Mar. 13, 1863. Taylor, KIA Oct. 19, 1864 at Cedar Creek, writes in part: "...I send you a view of Harper's Ferry and Maryland Heights. The left side is the heights where we are. There is a great many sick in our Regt. there is a great many going to the hospital every day...I can tell you our captain is very sick and is not expected to live and if he dies I do not know what we shall do as he is the only officer for any thing in our company....We have lost our Colonel as he was made General and our Lieut. Colonel is a coming back to us. We had orders to be in readiness to fall in at a moments notice last night we had 40 rounds of cartridges too, as they were a fighting the rebels about 40 miles from here like sixty but they did not come. I wish they had. It was at Winchester they were a fighting. We may have to go there...". Very good.
