DESIREABLE COLT 3RD MODEL DRAGOON CUT FOR
SHOULDER STOCK. Cal. 44. S# 17066. Colt produced only about 1500 of these 3rd models that were cut for shoulder stock & equipped w/ three position carbine sights on the bbl. Manufactured in 1858, most, if not all, saw Civil War use & are seldom found in untouched condition. This gun is one of the earliest Colt Dragoons to have the improved horizontal rammer latch which was modified in the early 17000 serial range. It retains all original matching serial numbered parts, including the bbl. wedge & is in near excellent mechanical condition. All numbers & markings are sharp & clear, including the "US" stamped below "COLTS PATENT" on the frame & two of the original safety pins remain on the cylinder. CONDITION: the bore is fair & shows some pitting, the exterior of the gun shows scattered minor denting w/ an even, brown patina. The walnut grips are near excellent, w/ only modest wear, & show no cracks or chips on the corners. Overall, the gun appears untouched & in a natural aged condition. Approximately 20% of the cylinder scene remains & all nipples are in good condition & appear original to the date of manufacture. The action is smooth & locks up tight. This is a very nice example of the rare shoulder stock variation of the Colt Dragoon that is unmolested. (01-18684/CL). ANTIQUE. $7,000-11,000.
