MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. Ser. #149521. Bbl. 24". Throat gauges 1.0 Muzzle gauges 1.5. Winchester bbl. marked w/ “WP” in oval w/ British export proofs. F B with the crossed sword marking indicate that the rifle was viewed at Birmingham in 1955. These export proofs do not indicate a Lend Lease rifle, but one imported into Britain & then exported out to another country. Flush nut rear sight w/ “Battle Range” elevation knob. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Sight screw retains protective cap. All visible parts markings are “WRA”. Slant cut operating rod. Gas cylinder marked at rear “8”. Stacking swivel is not present. Single slot gas cylinder lock screw. Milled trigger guard. Matching very scarce original early production Winchester walnut stock set is not cut for a buttplate trap and is marked on left side with faint boxed “W.R.A. & W.B.” and “Crossed Cannons”. The encircled “P” proof mark under grip has serifs correct on Winchester production. The buttstock has two vertically oriented holes under the buttplate. The top hole, .814" in diameter is drilled 8 1/4" deep. The bottom hole is .790" in diameter, drilled 6 5/8" deep. The buttplate is solid, made without trap and has the early slant cut checkering. Milled stock ferrule, and lower band. CONDITION: stock finish shows evidence of cleaning except for the final 3" around buttplate. Stock set shows light wear, staining, & handling marks throughout. Metal retains a large degree of original Parkerization with thinning and light wear. Gas cylinder and lock are gray with little remaining finish. Very good shiny bore with sharp lands.
