DESIGN FOR LIVING

Two Sheet (41" x 54")
Fine+ on Linen; Artwork by Harold Seroy
Paramount, 1933

This is an exceptionally rare two-sheet poster, printed exclusively for distribution in the New York area and used for outdoor advertising. It is believed to be the only surviving example of this rare poster size for the film. The poster comes from the estate of the original artist and is passed down to his heirs. The artwork on the poster was created by Harold Seroy. Seroy began his career at Warner Brothers' art department in 1930 and worked for all the major studios until he retired in 1960. Although he may not be widely known today, he is recognized for designing posters for prominent movies such as "The Barefoot Contessa" with Ava Gardner and "Gilda" featuring Rita Hayworth.

This poster has been mounted on linen. The majority of the left border has been replaced, and half of the right border has also been replaced. However, this has not affected the image in any way. Minor fold wear issues have been professionally restored. This rare poster is in very good condition.

Ernst Lubitsch helmed one of the wittiest pre-Production Code comedies in the early 1930s with this charming movie. Fredric March, Gary Cooper, and Miriam Hopkins feature as a trio entangled in a menage a trois that begins innocently and gradually becomes more intricate. As the story unfolds, innuendos and double entendres are exchanged with rapid and spirited wit.
