DERBY PORCELAIN
DERBY PORCELAIN - A small Bloor Derby blue ground baluster vase, painted by William Watson with a continuous scene of figures and romantic ruin in gilt, 3.5in high, circular Bloor Derby mark in red, c.1830 William Watson worked at the Derby factory until 1830. An eccentric character, he is best known for idiosyncratic genre scenes in gilt, normally on a dark blue ground. For a similar example of Watson's work see J. Twitchett, Derby Porcelain, 1980, illus. 320, p.241
