DERBY PORCELAIN - Prince of Wales pattern, a Derby lobed circular dish, the centre painted by William Billingsley with a rose and myosotis within a beaded gilt band, the salmon border with gilt pendants and lines, 9in diam, crown, crossed batons, dots and D in puce, pattern number 65, gilders numeral 3 for William Cooper, c.1787 For a plate of this pattern see W. D. John, William Billingsley (1758-1828), 1968, illus. 28. William Billingsley (1758-1828), one of the most influential figures in British ceramic history. Apprenticed to Duesbury in 1774 and developed the particular style of flower painting that bears his name. Close working relationship with Zachariah Boreman on important commissions such as the garniture of vases commissioned by Lord Scarsdale in 1787.
