DENT MACK CEMENT MIXER.
Without a doubt, the rarest of the Mack trucks, and certainly in the top ten of rare cast iron automotive toys. Originally this truck was to be produced by Dent Hardware of Fullerton, Pennsylvania. Only one example with original paint is known to exist today and for 60+ years, was in the possession of one of the owners of Dent Hardware. When this toy sold in the 1990s, it sold for in excess of $40,000. Donald Kaufman bought the original brass pattern in 1994, paying approximately $20,000. Shortly thereafter, Don had five produced from the original pattern and sold them to fellow collectors for approximately $5,000 apiece. It is understandable why this toy (if it was ever produced in any quantity) would have survived for any period of time. Basically the support mechanism for the massive and heavy "concrete" drum was on one end, and any pressure or weight put upon the opposite end would have caused this support to break or become damaged. Although visually a most attractive toy, the feasibility and construction were grossly inadequate for durability. The highly detailed C-cab Mack with an extended rear body supported the A-frame mechanism, which could also be lifted by means of a wire support to dump the concrete from the cylinder. More amazing is that when the toy was rolled along the floor, through the series of four rear wheels and a coil spring, the drum would rotate, mixing the concrete within. Utilized in this second casting are original dent rubber tires with wooden hubs and painted in the appropriate colors. Although this toy is of newer vintage, it still has a place among a person's collection who likes rarity, visual appeal, Mack trucks, etc. SIZE: 11" l. CONDITION: Very fine plus. 1-12849
