A nice example of Day's Under hammer .54 caliber percussion gun cane. Day placed the hammer under the handle tohelp keep the firing mechanism dry during rain. He also introduced a pronounced curve to the stock, similar to riflesof the time period (1st 1/2 of 19th century) for ease of use. This example retails much of the original grain paint inimitation of wood. The under curved stock is grained wood with a nickel eyelet. Round barrel is screwed to frameand has bead type foresight. Length of barrel 18.5", total length 36".Some paint loss, especially around lock and barrel end, very light surface rust were paint is missing, no barrel plug.(EST 600-800)
