DAVID DIXON PORTER (1813-1891). Civil War Union Admiral, and with his adopted brother DAVID FARRAGUT was influential in winning the Civil War for the Union at sea.
Original Civil War Carte de Visite of famed Union Admiral David Porter, Signed, “David D. Porter, Vice Adml” from the Mathew Brady negative having his imprint on verso, measuring 2.5” x 4”, Choice Very Fine. A wonderful portrait featuring the admiral in full Navy dress uniform, photographed in profile. Boldly Fully Signed “David D. Poster, Vice Adml” at the lower margin in rich brown ink. Slight crease in right margin, overall nice condition. Ex: EAHA Auction, May 20, 2016, Lot #1095, where it sold for $3,198. Historical and Very Rare, specially in this lovely quality.
DAVID DIXON PORTER (1813-1891) was a career United States Navy officer, with extensive service in the years before the Civil War, including the Mexican War. His ships served at New Orleans, Vicksburg, the Red River and Fort Fisher, as well as the Atlantic Blockading Squadron. He attained the rank of Admiral, and with his adopted brother DAVID FARRAGUT was influential in winning the Civil War for the Union at sea.
