Admiral “David D. Porter” Autograph Letter Signed
DAVID DIXON PORTER (1813-1891). United States Navy Admiral, one of the most noted and celebrated Union Naval Heroes influential in winning the Civil War.
July 5, 1873-Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, “David D Porter”, 8” x 9.75”, 1 page, Washington, Fine. Written in bold rich ink with a massive 4.5” signature, some tone to the lined period paper and some soiling along the lefty margin. Porter writes to William A Torrey, Esq., in full:

“Excuse me for not sonner answering your several letters but I am preparing to leave Washington and have my hands full. Much obliged to you for attending to my request about the hose which all came safely to hand. It’s quite the delight of the neighborhood to see me squirt! I was to send you the report of Capt. Mathem but I do not think it was to be of any service to you, it is very cautious. When I go to New York I will send you something of more value. I leave for that place Wednesday next and am glad to get away. I am almost dead with heat Yours very truly, (Signed) David D Porter”.
