This fine scrimshaw cane has 1.5 x 1.5 " walrus ivory knob mounted to a tapered whalebone hexagonal shaft.Engraved on the .5" coin silver collar is the presentation inscription: "Wm. Lee to F.H. Weed 1838.". Unmountedeyelet hole, 2.5" below knob, added .75" brass ferrule to stabilize short (>.75") split in base of shaft. Wonderful oldpatina, throughout. Total length 33". Seldom are such canes dated.Very minor tight age lines in ivory.(EST 1000-1500)
