Confederate major general though he was born in MA. A veteran of the Mexican and Indian wars, he led Bragg’s 1st Division at Shiloh and caused the surprised General Prentiss’ surrender at the Hornet’s Nest. <b>War-date</b> ALS in bold pencil, 1p, oblong 8vo, n.p., Mar 9, [1862]. A month before the desperately fought but inconclusive Battle of Shiloh, Ruggles writes in full, “<i>I don’t hear from General Jo. Withers. Will he cooperate with us.</i>..” Light scattered foxing; o/w VG.</span></p>

1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.
5. The Auctioneer reserves the right to withdraw any lot for any
reason.
6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.
