Union major general who commanded a brigade at Bull Run and led a corps in the desperate assault on Marye’s Heights. Butterfield is also credited with writing “Taps.” An unusual oversize albumen ISP, 16"x19½" full-length standing portrait in full dress uniform with hat and sword. Inscribed at length at bottom mount, “<i>To the brave men who served under my command in days gone by and who are now my comrades in the G.A.R. & belong to Post 353—Greenport Long Island—with kind regards of their old commander.</i>..” Attributed on mount to Pach Bros, New York. Dampstains at left and right margins away from image; lightly mottled, especially a 2" band in lower portion of image; still a generally very attractive image.</span></p>

1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.
