(1842 - 1864) Son of the famous Civil War admiral and victim of Kilpatrick's ill-fated 1864 cavalry raid on Richmond. Exceptionally rare war-date A.L.S. ""Ulric Dahlgren"" 1p. 8vo., Middletown, Va., July 5, 1862, a retained copy of a United States Military Telegraph sent to his father. In full: ""An order has been issued vacating Gen'l. Fremonts staff immediately if that affects additional aide de camps of Fremonts in Gen'l. Siegels staff will you have mine changed"". Written while serving as an aide-de-camp to Sigel and just one year before being promoted colonel of cavalry. Small hole affects one lette, minor fold separation at top, mounting hinges on verso, not affecting text, very good.
