Horizontal ¼ plate daguerreotype is a fine full side view of this handsome animal. I've been told it is a mare, rather than the male that is more commonly seen in daguerreotypes. It may well be a racehorse, and this is further suggested by the markings on the forehead. The bearded (possibly black) groom in his formal attire stands at the right. The signs on the stores across the street are blurry but at least the left-most might be deciphered. There's a man in the doorway at left, and a horse-drawn wagon. The seals have been retained; the original glass has been cleaned. There's a dark spot at the very top. Some tiny spots in early glass are not on the plate. In full case with original spine. [4-]
