D. W. Griffith Will Signed by Lillian Gish. Pione
D. W. Griffith Will Signed by Lillian Gish. Pioneering and controversial silent-era director D. W. Griffith was instantly taken with young Lillian Gish when he first directed her in 1912. Over the next decade, Gish was to become one of Griffith's greatest stars, appearing in features such as "The Birth of a Nation" (1915), "Broken Blossoms" (1919), and "Orphans of the Storm" (1921). After 13 years together, they amicably went their separate ways, with Gish heading to MGM for a short spell. (In the late 20's, her star began to wane as sound pictures became the rage with the viewing public.) Gish never forgot D. W. Griffith, even when everyone else in Hollywood did, helping care for the ailing giant and his wife until Griffith died in 1948. Featured is a copy of Griffith's will, dated August 13, 1947, naming Gish as executrix of his estate, signed on both pages by the actress. In very good condition with some wrinkling, faint tanning, creases and staple holes. With COA from PSA/DNA.
