D. E. WILLIAMS COLT/NAVY PATTERN 45/70 GATLING
GUN. Cal. 45/70. S# 002. Bbl. 31”. A beautiful brass, full size, functional reproduction of the iconic Navy Gatling gun. The Navy versions were distinct in their bold, brass encasement of the rotating barrel assembly which continues from the standard round brass receiver. Receiver markings resemble early Colt markings on top of the receiver, both behind and in front of the feed mechanism, in this case the Accles power feed mechanism. Forward engravings read "Manufactured by Colt's Patented Firearms Manufacturing Co. Hartford, Connecticut" engraved in large script, to rear of the feed mechanism is a 3 5/8" diameter name plate with a modern level inset in center & marked "Gatling Gun Patented", directly behind name plate, on receiver is engraved "Model 1883 No. 002 Cal. 45". Overall length 52” w/ trunnions measuring 1.25” in diameter. It appears that an enormous amount of effort and detail was incorporated into this build to have not only the appearance seem original, but to provide an authentic experience both in displaying and utilizing this iconic symbol of history. The feed device included, the Accles power feed, is often referred to as a 100 round magazine, though it is not uncommon for them to hold any capacity between 99-104 rounds, (we are uncertain of the capacity on this gun). MAGS: 1 Accles Power Feed Drum. CONDITION: gun itself is very good overall with much tarnish on brass components from having been a centerpiece of a display for many years. Action and mechanics appear to function properly under manual inspection and operation. The carriage itself while aesthetically pleasing would be rated at fair condition as it appears rather frail. The large 19th century antique wheels are very weathered and are believed to be too weak for much actual use. This gun has a wonderful age patina to the point of looking very authentic and original; it doesn’t appear as though its had excessive use and while the bores still retain a significant amount of rifling, a light patina is visible that may be rectified as simple as a light oiling & regular maintenance. (20-463/JZ). MODERN. $20,000-30,000.
