Issued at the behest of the L'Espirit de Lafayette Society. The Lafayette Legacy Plate Collection commemorates the establishment of the United States of America and the role played in that establishment by Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilber du Motier, the Marquis de Lafayette, who stood above all others of his time in the mulit-national pursuit of political liberty and uniting the hearts of French and American citizens in its cause for the generations to come. The edition portrays six signal moments in the Lafayette's American Revolutionary War career in original art by Andre Restieau on porcelain fired to the Grellet Standard of 1773. This collector's plate commission is the first ever accepted by either the artist or the porcelain house and the first ever granted by the L'Espirit de Lafayette Society for a commemorative art-object of any kind.
The documentation is complete including 7 numbered authenticity certificates and 7 leaflets which contain full story/explanation of the milestone depicted by each plate and are store in a beautiful limited edition embossed album. The Documentation comes complete with a binder album containing sleeved folders for the entire collection. The album comes with twelve Restieau prints which are the original sketches Restieau created in developing the final Lafayette plate designs. These works are in black ink on the artist's stock, ...
