Empress of Russia (1872–1918) as the spouse of Nicholas II, the last ruler of the Russian Empire, from their marriage on November 26, 1894 until his forced abdication on March 15, 1917. In the wake of the Russian Revolution, Nicholas, Empress Alexandra, and their children were imprisoned and finally executed on July 17, 1918. LS in French, signed “Alexandra,” one page both sides, 8 x 10.75, January 18, 1915. Written from Tsarskoye Selo, a letter to Pauline d'Harcourt, comtesse d'Haussonville, in full (translated): "I received your letter as well as the charming jewel that accompanied it. This jewel [depicting] the arms of the allies is for Me a symbol of the ties that unite Us in Our Common task, to relieve the suffering of the valiant defenders of the fatherland. I beg you to receive and to transmit to the Ladies of the Committee of Aid to Wounded Soldiers My sincerest thanks for your delicate thoughts as well as My best wishes for the accomplishment of your eminently humanitarian works. That God keeps you in his holy care." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, and a typed letter signed by veteran Russian diplomat Alexander Izvolsky, thanking d'Harcourt on behalf of Alexandra for the gift of a gold brooch.
