Cut-down model 1842 U.S. Percussion Musket
Cut-down model 1842 U.S. Percussion Musket. 33 ¼ round barrel is 69 Caliber and is one of the guns sent back to the armory to be rifled from 1856 to 1859. The bore has surface rust that might clean up to be fair to good. The lock is missing the two front pins and is marked with an eagle over us in front of the hammer and spring field 1846 in 3 lines behind the hammer. This is a possible Mexican War Veteran and a probable Civil War Veteran. The metal parts are arsenal bright and the wood stock is sound but cut back to about 5" above the first band and there is a crack right in front of the lock. The rifle has two bands and the original, but cut down trumpet.
Estimated Value$500 - 750.
