Custom target rifle with elaborately engraved Martini action, F. R. Butler, Paultney, VT. Heavy round barrel, checkered bird's-eye and flaming maple stock in .25-35 caliber. We would estimate the time of manufacture of this rifle in the1950's to early 60's by style. The barrel measures 25-3/4", is mounted with scope blocks for long tube-type scope. The action shows original German double-set triggers. The stock is well made with high rollover Monte Carlo type cheek piece, crispengraving, and very nicely proportioned with a thin Pachmayr recoil pad. The action shows exceptional engraving of dueling stag on left side surrounded by Germanic scrolls. The right side shows dueling boar. The action shows considerablecase hardening drifting to silvery grey. There is one small chip at the tang area where the frame meets the wood. The action is crisp, the bore is excellent. The engraving on this frame is really exceptional and undoubtedly the reason it waschosen to make a fine target rifle out of. Est: $1,750 - $3,500
