Custom engraved and gold inlaid Colt SAA second generation revolver, accomplished by the late noted Master engraver Howard Dove, .45 cal., 4-3/4” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, thick Colt medallion scrimshawed ivory one piece grips, #64545SA. This gun is in overall like new condition with a June 5, 1987 dated letter signed by Howard Dove covering the features of this exceptional piece of firearm artwork. The coverage of the engraving is in the Cuno Helfricht style and is D+ with 24 K gold inlaid borders on the frame side plates, hammer, butt of the grip and back strap. There is also a gold inlaid shell design at the top of the back strap and on the loading gate; the barrel is double banded in gold, the barrel address is surrounded by a gold border and the “Colt Single Action Army .45” left side inscription is also gold inlaid; the Rampant Colt on the left side of the lower frame is gold inlaid and all screw heads have also been expertly engraved. The grips are in excellent condition and have a scrimshawed American Eagle over a banner that reads “In God We Trust” on the left side. Paperwork also includes a newspaper article on Howard Dove. A fine example of Dove’s outstanding work and attention to detail. Est.: $5,000-$10,000.
