Custom engraved and 24 K gold inlaid Colt Sheriff's Model SAA revolver by Master engraver Ken Hurst, .45 Long Colt cal., 2-1/2" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, deluxe raised carved ivory grips by Dennis Holland, #044SE25. This gun is in like new condition with extensive scroll engraving on all parts including the front sight and hammer. The barrel is double gold banded, the frame is outlined in a gold inlaid band with three panel scenes including a raised gold caricature of Lawman Pat Garrett on the left recoil shield, a buffalo skull in silver on the left front side of the frame (Garrett was a buffalo hunter before becoming a lawman and rancher), and an "LS" in silver surrounded by a gold inlaid lariat on the right front of the frame (a ranch Garrett worked on at one time as a cowhand). The loading gate shows a five pointed silver inlaid badge and the back strap has an inscription signature "Pat Garrett". Also inscribed on the top strap is "Wm Bonney" (referencing "Billy the Kid" who Garrett shot and killed in 1881); and the dates "5-5-50" and 2-29-08" on either side of the trigger guard referencing Garrett's birth in 1850 and death by assassination in 1908. The grips are finely and expertly raised carved with Pat Garrett on the left grip and a scene of Garrett shooting Billy the Kid at the Maxwell ranch inside Billy's room. An outstanding piece of firearms artistry with a Western theme. Accompanied by an August 9, 2000 dated letter from Jim Alaimo covering additional information on this piece. Est.: $7,000-$14,000.
