Custom L. C. Smith Featherweight Specialty Grade Side-by-Side Sidelock Shotgun with Two Sets of Barrels, #SE45563, 16 ga., 30'' and 26'' blue finish barrels, both serial numbered to the frame, with tapering 3/8'' solid matted ribs, brass front beads, ejectors and nitro trademarks; the 30'' barrels are original to the gun and have 2-9/16'' chambers, .644'' bores and .024'' chokes, with a bright silver inlay at the rib extension and Specialty Grade roll stamping on right barrel with Hunter Arms address on left barrel; the later 26'' factory barrels have a high rib, 2-3/4'' chambers, .660'' bores with .022'' and .010'' chokes and Specialty grade roll stamping on right barrel without a Hunter Arms address. The full-blue finish frame has double triggers, sliding top-tang three position safety and Specialty grade engraving with two quail on left lockplate and waterfowl scene with ducks on right lockplate, both game scenes are encircled by large open scrolls which carry to the fences and barrel breeches, a similar pattern is applied to the rib extension of the 26'' barrels. The flame-figured high-gloss urethane finish walnut stock has a half pistol grip with 18 line-per-inch checkering and two, slightly different style, beavertail forends with 16 line-per-inch checkering and forend irons serial numbered to the frame; the pistol-grip cap has a gold shield initialed ''RKH'' in Old English script; length of pull is 14-1/4'' over a black 1'' White Line ventilated recoil pad, drop at heel is 3'', weight with 30'' barrels is 7-1/8 lbs.; the production date for the original gun and barrel set is ca. 1922 with the additional barrels completed ca. 1940's. In brown Pachmayr double leatherette luggage case with green felt lining and combination locks. Current mechanical condition remains very good showing a moderate amount of wear, with bright bores, firm triggers and working ejectors. Frame has a 99% reblue over light pitting and corrosion with small pellet-sized dents on the face and water table. Engraving on the lockplates appears clear and unaltered; the 30'' barrels have a 98% reblue with a few small dents and marks in top fastener, a slightly wavy rib at the forend catch and looseness on the frame without the forend; the 26'' barrels have a 95% blue finish and are tight on the face, with patchy oxidation in and around the chambers and scattered scuffs from attaching the forend; screw slots are generally marred. Wood has a 99% refinish with slightly enlarged inletting. Case interior has light staining. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (C&R)
