Custom Engraved and Scrimshawed Bill Duff Virginia City Mustang Bowie Knife with Case and Papers

Manufactured in 1983 as part of a limited series of 100, the Virginia City Mustang Bowie, aka the Axton-Duff Bowie, was made by bladesmith Bill Duff, former Buck foreman and founding partner of Rigid Knives, with engraving by George Sherwood and scrimshaw work by Don R. Meyer. Measuring 12 inches overall, the blade is in the 'spearpoint bowie' configuration, 7 1/4 inches long with a 2 3/8 inch false edge, file decoration and the marking "SHERWOOD ENGRAVED" on the spine, "13 of 100" on the leading edge of the ricasso, and fine scroll engraving on the left side of the blade, scrollwork with a textured background surrounding an image of a frog in a tuxedo holding a knife and a musical note, with "AXTON-DUFF/1983" marked around it. The oval cross guard is German silver, with light edge engraving, leading to the "DRMeyer" signed grip, with a design of 6 charging horses on the left side and a scroll engraved pommel cap. Included with the bowie is a red cloth lined hardwood case, as well as a bill of sale and correspondence related to the sale of 2 of these bowies.
