This is an attractive example of a custom engraved Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine. The frame is decorated with a broad scroll and floral design, with a punch dot background and some scallop bordering. The left side plate is also decorated with a bust of a woman in a figure 8 panel and the right side plate has a dot and scallop bordered oval with "N, TAYLOR" inscribed in the center. The bottom of the frame has a wedge of scroll and punch dot engraving with a spurious "LDN" in the center and the cartridge elevator has a flower design with a punch dot background, scallop border and outwardly pointing arrows in each corner. The side of the receiver has "NIMSCHKE" crudely stamped in the center, vertically stamped. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/King's improvement patent dates and the serial number is marked on the lower tang behind the trigger. Standard blade front and folding leaf carbine rear sights, blue barrel and magazine, and casehardened hammer and lever, with saddle ring and staple on the left side of the frame. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a brass buttplate, with floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the tang, and compartment.

Condition: Professionally embellished with a smooth brown patina on all the metal surfaces, showing some streaks of custom blue finish on the barrel. The barrel address is reengraved. The wood remains very good with a few minor dings and dents. The markings and engraving are clear. Mechanically fine.
