Manufactured from 1863 to 1875, this example of a New Model Army percussion revolver features quality 20th century custom engraving. The extensive floral and scroll engraving appears to have been cut through the original blue finish with the three line New Model barrel marking restamped. The engraving covers nearly all of the frame with the front strap untouched. The frame engraving extends to the sides of the brass trigger guard. The cylinder, barrel, and trigger are also embellished with the floral scroll engraving with light engraving on the loading lever. Replacement blade front sight and nicely figured varnished two-piece grips. Matching serial number on the frame and barrel.
BBL: 8 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 114699
Condition: Fine as custom embellished. The revolver retains over half of blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The engraving is clear. The custom highly figured grain walnut grips are very fine and have some minor handling marks (mostly on the bottoms). Mechanically fine.
