Custom Engraved Black Powder U.S. Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1876 and subsequently professionally embellished in the mid 20th Century. The revolver features floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the top of the barrel, the frame, cylinder flats, trigger guard bow and back strap. There is a thin gold inlaid wire band around the muzzle. The ejector housing, rear of the cylinder and top strap have a feather design. The top of the back strap has the monogram "M F/G". The recoil shield has an elk in a round panel. The left side of the barrel is marked COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 38 SPECIAL" and the right side is marked with the one line address. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The inspector initials "L.D" are stamp above the frame serial number. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, all blue finish, and fitted with stag grips. The accompanying letter states this revolver was a 45 caliber, blue finished with grips and barrel length as "Not Listed" when it was shipped as 1 of 100 to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt Plant on November 11, 1876. The letter also notes that at the time the 7 1/2 inch barrel and walnut grips were standard at the time.
