Custer Era Colt Single Action Revolver
U.S. marked Cavalry series revolver serial number 5337, 7 1/2”, .45 caliber in the known Custer Range. Ainsworth inspected throughout including the faint cartouche visible on the grips. All original, including the 7 1/2” barrel, very good overall with 10% blue and some traces of case color. All numbers but the cylinder are 5337, the cylinder is 4870. The revolver has a smooth patina overall, good U.S. and patent marks, edges are sharp and show little wear. Correct ejector housing. 2 indentations on left side of the barrel, one on right. According to the table on page 260 of Colt Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers by John Kopec and Sterling Fenn, this revolver fits into the range of guns issued to Company M, 7th Cavalry under Reno’s command. A fine, and all correct 7th issued revolver.
