This print is in good condition, showing all the exceptional colors. Framed in a wood frame and matted in a cream color that enhances and brightens the cool hues of winter in the picture, and the size of the piece is 15? x 19.25?. An excellent addition to any collection, and listed at a very agreeable price.
The firm of Currier & Ives, the most famous lithographers in America, was founded by Nathaniel Currier at 1 Wall Street in 1834. James Merrit Ives was made a partner in 1857. It was at this time that the now familiar term "Currier & Ives" came into being. The firm prospered until the deaths of Currier in 1888 and James Ives seven years later. Their sons headed the firm until 1907 when advances in lithography and uninspired management forced them to close. Works by Currier and Ives are highly sought after and very valuable, both for their historic and artistic value. Their value continues to increase daily, as does their following of collectors.
