<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="4"><tr><td><em> </em></td></tr><tr> <td width="100%"> The Farewell is a matted and framed Currier & Ives print. It shows a woman and child at the sea shore waving good bye. A small dog is in the picture as well. It is a black and white print. The size of the print is 8 1/2 x 10 1/2. The title is underneath and also " Published by Currier & Ives" and the address. The print is matted in a single rust colored mat with a medium oak colored frame that fits the work perfectly. It is in good condition. The firm of Currier & Ives, the most famous lithographers in America, was founded by Nathaniel Currier at 1 Wall Street in 1834. In 1852 Currier engaged as a bookkeeper James Merrit Ives, who had recently married into the family. An artist in his own right and with business acumen and a critical eye for technical perfection, it was not surprising he was made a partner in 1857. It was at this time that the now familiar term "Currier & Ives" came into being. The firm prospered until the deaths of Currier in 1888 and James Ives seven years later. Their sons headed the firm until 1907 when advances in lithography and uninspired management forced them to close. Works by Currier and Ives are higly sought and very valuable, both for their historic and artistic value. Their value continues to increase daily. This work is a perfect example of the wonderful work the Currier & Ives company has produced.
