Featured in this lot is this hand tinted or colored broadside titled "Custer's Last Charge" published by Currier & Ives in 1876. Provenance: From an Ex-Museum collection out of Eastern Montana; Ex-Heritage Auction. The broadside features a wonderfully and professionally crafted construction that shows Custer riding into battle during his "last charge" holding his saber in his right hand and guiding his horse into battle. The broadside is marked at the bottom of the artwork as follows: Published by Currier & Ives - Copyright 1876 by Currier & Ives N.Y. - 115 Nassau St New York - Custer's Last Charge. - Brevet Major-General George A. Custer, Lieutenant-Colonel 7th U.S. Cavalry. - Killed in the battle with the Sioux, June 25th, 1876. The condition of this hand tinted broadside is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage with some browning to the broadside consistent with the age. The measurements of this framed and protective broadside is 16 1/4" x 12 1/2" and the visible artwork measures 13 1/4" x 9 1/2". The collective weight of this displayed broadside is 4oz.
