Current Money of Virginia. Act of Assembly Passed May 24, MDCCLXII (1762). Two Pounds or “Shills Forty.” Fr. VA-53. PCGS Very Good-10 Details. Multiple Repairs, Design Redrawn, Backed. As illustrated.

Description: Thin laid paper. Serial No. 232. Signed by Peyton Randolph and Ro. C. Nicholas. Printer uncertain. Uniface. 80mm by 65mm. An exceptional note for the grade. A notch or two lower on the grading scale than the previous example of Fr. VA-53, but no less attractive and certainly no less rare. Tight at top, narrow, even margins elsewhere. The numerous faded endorsements across the backing might be readable with patience and a good light source. A second opportunity at an elusive Virginia note.

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part VIII, January, 2005, Lot 1663. (Ford Price Realized: $517.50)
