This painting on paper in brush and brown ink depicting two cupids (squared for transfer) is unsigned, and appears to be a work after Marcantonio Franceschini (1648-1729). Glazed and gilded frame with detailed carved gesso measures 14" by 15.75" by 2". Some losses in the lower left corner. Portion of sheet visible under matte measures 7" by 9". Some stains. This item comes from the collection of Roni Steinberg Sokoloff and resided in her former 63-acre estate in Bedford New York known as Cantitoe Farms. (The estate is down the road from Martha Stewart's home by the same name.) Ms. Sokoloff purchased the piece from a Manhattan dealer in the early 1980s, and it was appraised by Sotheby's in 1998 for insurance purposes.
