Crow Tobacco Bag
Crow Tobacco Bag
Circa 1885
Length 26 1/4 in. Width 5 in.

This native tanned deerskin bag is partially beaded on each side with stylized floral designs in navy blue, sky blue, red, and yellow, all outlined in white. The bag has been rubbed with yellow ochre overall; hide fringing decorates the bottom. The beading is typical of Crow floral designs that became popular toward the end of the 19th century. These stylized floral patterns can also be noted on vests, coats, trousers, gauntlets, and moccasins from the period.
