Crow Pattern Fringed Pipe Bag w/ 1890's Beadwork
The lot features an Indian tanned hide, full-size pipe bag in Montana Crow Apsaalooke Indian pattern with 1880-1890’s original Venetian, Italian glass trade seed cen and petit beads and long Indian tanned hide fringe further adorned with green “basket” Czechoslovakian bugle beads dating to circa 1890-1920’s. The bag has a phenomenal pattern with snake or hourglass (hour-glass) patterns, beaded strip down the side, beaded tab hide ties, and a fancy beaded border at top. The beadwork includes colors of greasy blue, Cheyenne pink, greasy yellow, cobalt, red white heart, greasy lilac, cobalt, greasy butterscotch, greasy green, and semi-transparent green. This is one of the best beaded pipe bag patterns we have ever offered in good condition and with little to no bead loss. The hide has supple soft condition with a nice white coloring, indicative of Indian tanning; overall, the bag has some signs of dark coloring on the beads and hide. Provenance: From an astounding American Indian beadwork and artifact collection out of Sheridan, Montana. Measures overall 37”L by 5.5”W.
