This is an early Crow Native American Indian parfleche pistol holster from circa 1860-1880. The holster has a rich polychrome mineral painted tradtional design with long cut hide fringe and a Swiss Franc Silver coin trade button. The painted design is on both sides of the holster. The piece is very well preserved showing good museum quality condition. The piece appears to be for a Colt Army Percussion Pistol. Provenance: The piece is from a very extensive private Native American artifact collection in France. Extremely rare and uncommon construction for a holster (most holsters would have been Indian hide, leather, canvas, with beadwork) RARE. Measures overall 21 5/8"L x 6.5"W. The fringe is approx. 6"L.
